Whether you’re already planning to participate in an IWD march or event in your area this year, or IWD is new to your radar, here are some fun and creative ideas (online and in real life) to celebrate International Women’s Day.

1. Organize or join an existing walk in your area

While the reality is that there will be fewer in-person IWD marches this year than before the pandemic, be sure to browse the event lists in your area to see what’s happening. If you’re keen to take to the streets but there’s nothing like it happening in your city, consider getting together some like-minded people and organising your own IWD march! 2. Draw attention to the powerful and courageous women who inspire you

While we should all be doing it, all the time, there is no better time than IWD to deliberately share the stories of amazing women Who put the wind under your wings, right? You might choose to write a social media post honoring an activist or political leader whose work resonated deeply with you, write an article for your local newspaper (or any other online content provider you deem worthy) about an underrated athlete or inventor, or create a piece of art inspired by the women artists who have most influenced you and credit that inspiration by showcasing yourself online. In short: increase your visibility, raise the bar!

3. Organize a sex toy gift exchange and party

Advocating for women’s sexual empowerment is as worthy a reason to celebrate International Women’s Day as any other. the orgasm gap? Yeah, it’s a thing. I have a soft spot for in-person events, as long as they are done with safety protocols in mind. That said, in the wake of the pandemic, the majority of in-person events have shifted to virtual webinars. One tangible benefit of this is that you may feel more empowered than ever to host your own online event! Virtual events offer great accessibility, eliminate the costs of a venue, travel, and accommodations, while still providing the opportunity for a truly unforgettable event. If you are like me and prefer to host in person, you can do that too. Start by securing funding (easier for a business or organization), finding a preferred venue, and confirming availability of your speakers. The rest will fall into place, especially if you have a strong team of co-organizers.
