Woman shocked by first date lasagna gift
An Australian internet celebrity has gone viral for a strange gift she received on a first date.
Celeste Joan shared a story about an unusual first date on TikTok.
She said she and the man on Hinge were a good match and decided to continue dating after he messaged them so positively.
“He immediately called his number back and said, ‘Hey Celeste, I’m deleting this app. I’d love to text you. You really interested me,'” she recalled.
“He booked a place and said, ‘Great, we’ll meet there on Tuesday at 8pm’.”
When she arrives at the rendezvous, it’s obvious that he’s more attractive than she expected.
“What did I see at the bar next to him?” she said.
“This is lasagna. He brought lasagna, his homemade lasagna recipe, for me to try at the bar.”
The gift, strange as it may seem, is reminiscent of Joan’s hinged reminder that reads: “My love language is Nona’s lasagna.”
“I can’t make it up,” she said.
“This smells incredible.”
Joan even pointed out that the lasagna was prepared the correct way – the sauce was made two days ago.
And, she said it tasted great too.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever go on a date again,” she said.
“There is no date that can top this.
“I’m not going to tell him how good it is because he’ll be blown away, but it’s awesome.”
Commenters on the post were obsessed with the video.
“Hahaha, marry this man,” one person said.
“New date standards unlocked,” agreed another.
“A guy who wraps homemade treats in foil and Glad Wrap for you to try on a first date is a complete gentleman, very considerate and doesn’t expect to collect Tupperware on a second date. Sounds like a really lovely lady,” said a third.
But unfortunately, Joan later clarified that this was not intentional.
In an updated video posted after the original clip, she recounted what happened after the date and said he ultimately decided they no longer wanted to work together.
“[He said]”I looked at your Instagram and I want you to know that you are looking for a man of God and I am not that man,” she said.
“I said to him multiple times on the phone, ‘I respect that a lot. I respect you telling me that my values and my goals for future partners are not yours to do’. I love it.
“Hands down, the best date, the best communication. He’s an all-around great guy.”
