Woman finds easy way to match Olympic athletes

Singles hope to score with Olympians — even if they’re thousands of miles apart.

American content creator Sofia Elizabeth based her Hinge location in the Olympic Village, hoping to gain top spot in the minds of athletes despite living on a different continent, and to her surprise, it may have worked.

“At first, I didn’t see any Olympians, so I decided to keep busy scrolling,” the TikTokker explained in a viral video that has been viewed more than 14 million times.

After surpassing non-athletes, Sofia finally made the list of Olympic athletes, and the two “hit it off.”

While she did not name the competition, she claimed the Olympian won the “first gold medal” for the United States, though she did not provide any evidence.

“That’s who I’m up against, baby, that’s who I’m up against,” she cheered jokingly. “I look better in gold anyway.”

The Washington Post has reached out to Sophia for comment.

Viewers praised the unconventional dating technique, calling Sofia an “icon” and a “true patriot”.

One person quipped: “Hurry up, girl.”

Another cheered: “This is the only Olympics update I need. You are a true patriot.”

Another person commented: “I support this match.”

For single friends who want to meet their significant other at the Olympic Village, Sofia gives a lengthy tutorial in a subsequent video, explaining that she chose Hinge as her app because there is no extra fee to change your location.

“You ask, ‘But how do I find an Olympian?'” she said. “It’s simple: Olympians are kind of like vegetarians. You don’t have to ask, they’ll tell you.”

While the creator didn’t reveal who she was paired with, she hinted that she was one of the swimmers on Team USA that won the country’s first gold medal in the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay. Photo courtesy of AFP/Getty Images

She encouraged eager viewers to look for “signs” of Olympic athletes, like them playing sports or obvious descriptions, like answering the prompt with “Paris!!! 2024 Olympics here I come.”

“To compete with the athletes, you have to train like an athlete — by doing your research,” she continued, advising people to search for the location of the Olympic Village in Paris. Hint: It’s about five miles north of the city center.

Sophia cautions that it takes time and patience when it comes to swiping, but eventually, the algorithm will learn that you are just looking for athletes.

“If everything goes well, flights to Paris are really cheap right now,” she said. “For $300, you can meet your significant other and see their cardboard bed in person.”
