Wedding day backlash leaves bride questioning her ‘childlessness’
An engaged woman took to Reddit to seek advice after facing backlash for telling her wedding guests that children would not be allowed on the big day.
On the “r/wedding” subreddit, a user posted a query to other social media users seeking advice on the tricky situation surrounding the couple’s wedding.
“We’re having a wedding without kids, but when telling people, one couple… said this [was] No problem attending the ceremony, but they will bring their children (two of them) to the reception – not required [if] It doesn’t matter,” the person wrote.
The user added: “[They] Tell us they will. What should I do in this situation? “
Reddit users took to the comments section to advise the woman to fight back and lay down the law.
One user wrote: “I would reply and say, ‘I’m sorry if you misunderstood. The entire event is 18+ (or 21+) or adults only. We understand if this may cause difficulty for you, If you are unable to attend, we look forward to celebrating with you later.”
Another user said: “You have to be as rude as they are and tell them in no uncertain terms that the children will not be allowed to attend the wedding or reception.”
Rosalinda Randall, an etiquette expert from California, told Fox News Digital via email that the “no kids rule” needs to be fully enforced if implemented.
“You and your fiancé have to decide where to draw the line when it comes to guests who make demands or ask for special treatment,” she tells brides.
Randall advised Reddit users to try to resolve the issue face-to-face with the invited guests, if possible, after deciding whether to allow children to attend the wedding.
The etiquette expert adds: “Did you enforce it? Or were you considerate of your nieces and nephews, or your best friend’s three-year-old? If so, you can expect guests whose children weren’t present to feel hurt, ask questions Questions and concise comments.”
Florida etiquette expert Jacqueline Whitmore suggested that Reddit users respond: “We love you kids! But we decided to keep it “Adults Only” so that everyone can have a consistent experience. We very much hope you can still join us! ”
Zola wedding expert Allison Cullman told Fox News Digital that “child-free” weddings are becoming increasingly popular these days.
Zola data shows that 47% of couples still invite children, while 35% require guests to find a babysitter for the evening.
“Even if a couple welcomes children to their wedding, many couples will include stipulations at the event to ensure the wedding is great for both children and adults,” she says.
For example, Kalman said some couples designate play areas for children during events.
She also said some couples set age limits for children attending weddings.
