VeDO Niki remote control cannot be paired

Hi everyone! I bought the VeDO Niki Panty Vibrator last week and have been unable to get the remote to work. I removed the paper on the bottom of the remote’s batteries, put the toy in standby, and turned on the remote. I see the light on the remote flashing, but nothing happens to the toy. Did I do something wrong? I emailed customer service but have yet to hear back. Unfortunately, the toy is useless without the remote. Thanks in advance for any help!
