Unexploded World War II bomb detonates in central Nagoya

An unexploded US bomb weighing about 250 kilograms was detonated at a demolition site in central Nagoya on Sunday morning and was removed. Japan’s Self-Defense Forces (SDF) began deactivating the bomb at around 10 a.m. While the operation was underway, a safety zone with a radius of 300 meters was established. The city ordered the evacuation of about 2,400 homes, including more than 3,700 residents. Services are suspended between Sakae Station and Ikexia Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line, and between Taikodori Station and Imaike Station on the Sakuradori Line. City buses are also taking detours to avoid the area.
