Archaeologists have discovered a clay figurine of an unburned toad at the Vichama site (ZAC) in the Caral Archaeological District (ZAC) in Peru. The figurine is about 12 cm (4.7 inches), depicting the hind legs of two small frogs or toads. This is a clay figurine like this, found not only in Vichama, but at any Caral ruins.

They often depict them on Vichama with mud brick stands and artwork. The toad’s skeletal residue was found in the ritual arrangement (bound with reeds) and incorporated into the Tupus (long pin with wide head). This unique discovery of statues of two feet reinforces the narrative found in the relief of Vitama walls.

Despite the ongoing decades of famine, it flourished between 1800 and 1500 BC.

The climate crisis broke the capital Caral, but the drought in Vichama is still in a strong drought. Its agricultural fields cover the entire right bank of the river. Between farming and fishing, Vichama was able to survive the decades of Kalar’s abandonment. Archaeologists unearthed 28 buildings during this period, including large public buildings, plazas and residential areas.

It is also worth noting that two uncilized models representing buildings demonstrate technical knowledge of urban planning and symbolic value of communicating social and territorial organization principles.
