Delay is the most deadly form of denial.

As sex and porn addicts, we rationalize, minimize, and rationalize our sexual adventures, blaming everyone and everything but ourselves for our actions and the troubles we end up in. In recovery, we give this type of reasoning a name: denial. Denial is a series of inner lies and deceptions we tell ourselves to make our questionable behavior seem okay (to us, if not others). Typically, every self-deception is supported by one or more rationalizations, and each of our rationalizations is supported by more lies. That’s the way it is. There is no doubt that an impartial observer could easily see through our smoke screens, but we either cannot or are unwilling, instead choosing to ignore the seriousness and potential consequences of our actions so that we can easily continue with our sexual Behavior. This willful ignorance can last for years—often until our addiction is discovered by others, and sometimes even longer.
