God does not call the qualified, He qualifies those who are called.

Unfortunately, it’s not always easy for sex and porn addicts to find qualified treatment professionals. First, a basic understanding of sex and porn addiction is not a standard part of most psychotherapists’ training. As a result, sex and porn addicts are sometimes met by therapists who are unfamiliar with compulsive sexual behavior but are knowledgeable about a variety of related and co-occurring issues (most notably depression and anxiety). These clinicians often correctly diagnose and treat these secondary issues but never actually touch upon the addict’s primary problem — addiction — simply because they don’t know how to diagnose or address it. It’s actually very easy for therapists who aren’t trained to deal with compulsive sexual behavior to mistake the problem for a mood disorder or early trauma response.

Today’s Task
Ask the therapist (your therapist or one you know) what he or she knows about sex and porn addiction. Is the therapist trained/certified in treating compulsive sexual behavior?
