Scammers are using this sneaky iPhone app to send secrets

A person holding an Apple iPhone 13 Pro shows the Notes app in a car on December 29, 2021, in Lafayette, California.

The Notes app on your iPhone is home to some of our most valuable ideas, but it may also be home to something more sinister.

According to some social media sleuths, the Notes app is now being used by people to perform dirty deeds on their partners.

“Apparently the new way people are cheating is on the iPhone Notes app,” TikTok user @bellastalktime said in a video posted Thursday that has received 237,800 views.

The content creator claims that users can invite iPhone users to collaborate on shared notes, allowing them to see text and images that can be quickly deleted.

“People can get away with sending photos and all kinds of stuff,” she said. “This is crazy.”

Some sly viewers admitted they knew the Notes app had long been used by duplicitous cheaters.

“I’ve been worried about this for a while. Along with the ‘Calculator’ photo gallery,” one user wrote, referring to an app named Calculator that looks like a calculator. But it is a place to store locked photos.

“Yeah. One of my best friends. His notes app is open on his laptop and this is how she [his girlfriend] Found it,” one person shared.

“Yes, I’ve done that, you can lock notes with a custom password so that even if someone gets their hands on your phone, they can’t unlock the note,” admitted another.

However, other shocked viewers said they had no idea the seemingly innocuous Notes app could be used to carry out such shady acts.

“My husband and I use this feature for our shopping lists,” said one naive Notes user.

“If anyone asked me to work with him on a Notes app, he would be blocked,” one declared.

“I can’t imagine messaging anyone through the Notes app,” another person chimed in.

“I’m too lazy to be so creative,” a third said bluntly.
