Rejection usually comes slowly over time through a series of small, seemingly harmless lies. Typically, every lie has its own set of rationalizations, minimizations, and reasons to reinforce it. In this intricately woven alternate reality, our sex-addictive behaviors seem entirely justified give us. The rest of the world may easily see through this tapestry of deception, but we can’t or won’t. For us, calling out the lies we tell ourselves to justify our problem behavior—the fabrication of our denial—is key to sustained recovery.
