Oh my god. I am Wand Girl Now, am I not?
This is a fear I expressed to my spouse when I was working on a miniseries about magic wands. Creating MagicSome actors worry about being typecast after playing a well-received nerd or rogue; similarly, I worry that I’ll always be known as the girl with the wand crush.
But now, after thinking about it more, I’m kind of like: That’s OK. I could have left a worse legacy.
I swear, and I’m not just saying this because Wands Girl received a lot of wands.
What is the Romulus Shop Olympia 10 Speed Wand?
Like many of my favorite sex toy shops, Romulus Shop sells a variety of classic, well-known shapes and wild, out-there designs. Ever wanted to have someone tap your G-spot while you suck on your clit? They have toys for that. How about a Medusa’s Hairdresser? They have toys for that. Glass anal beads? Yes, they have those too. (I haven’t tried them and can’t personally attest to whether they’re any good, but… wow. Glass anal beads?!?)
In this case, however, I’m reviewing a much more modest product: a humble wand. You know them, you love them; they’re the original muscle massagers turned orgasm tools, and they tend to deliver some of the most intense vibrations. The Olympia wand is the most classic wand in Romulus’s store.
What I like about Olympia Wand
- For me, the most impressive thing about the wand – especially considering its low price – is that each of its 10 vibration modes has 5 different intensity settings. Usually on cheap vibrators, you’re lucky if you get 3 different steady vibration intensities and a couple of modes – but this wand gives you one steady vibration mode + 9 modes, all There are 5 different intensity levels to choose from. This makes each mode more flexible and gives me more chances to actually use mode, because (for example) I can start with a low, rumbling pulse and gradually increase to a high-power pulse without interrupting the flow by cycling through other modes.
- The vibration quality at the lowest intensity is good; I’d say it’s buzzy, but leaning towards rumbling, and I found it effective for arousal. However, as I’ll describe later, I wasn’t too interested in the high-intensity buzz. But in terms of sheer force (i.e., vibration) strengthrather than the vibration quality/pitch), I’d say this wand is pretty medium – fairly strong, but not too strong.
- The neck of the wand can be bent in all directions, and in my experience the vibrations are not dampened or interrupted when the neck is bent this way (although I’m sure, as with all wands, a certain amount of pressure will final break it).
- Compared to other wands of similar size, it’s pretty light. It feels like it could be half the weight of the Magic Wand Rechargeable, or even lighter. There was a time when I would have thought this was Tax RefundBecause lighter toys can feel unsubstantial and lower quality – but now that I suffer from chronic pain and strength issues in my hands/arms (and elsewhere), it’s actually helpful for me that the toy isn’t too heavy, because it means I can hold it for longer without getting tired, and can easily move it to different locations around my vulva.
- At first, I was concerned that this toy didn’t come with an instruction manual – but its controls are actually pretty simple. Press and hold the power button to turn the toy on or off, and then short-press the same button to cycle through the vibration modes. The plus and minus buttons control the vibration intensity.
- It’s waterproof! That’s awesome! That’s unusual for a full-sized wand like this. It’s always nice to be able to use the toy in the shower or bath, or even just be able to wash it in the sink without having to worry about damaging it.
- As I write this, it’s selling for $31.90 USD (or $46 CAD), which is a pretty good price for a full-sized, rechargeable wand vibrator made from non-porous, body-safe material.
My business No Like the Olympian Wand
- My biggest issue with this toy is the vibration quality. As I mentioned above, I really like the lowest of the 5 intensity levels, but the vibrations from levels 2 to 5 get progressively louder, causing (for me) temporary clitoral desensitization, which happens with such high-pitched vibrations. I can’t get enough of the buzzing vibrations unless I rotate the toy toward me throughout the process, or rush through the process in order to orgasm before most of the desensitization occurs.
- It’s pretty loud, even for a wand. My Apple Watch measured it at 71 decibels, while the Magic Wand Rechargeable tops out at about 50 decibels. With the Olympia, someone standing outside my bedroom door could probably tell I was using a vibrator… though I will say that it gets a bit quieter when it’s pressed against me and/or used under a blanket.
- Personal annoyance: When you first turn it on, it always starts at 3rd of 5 intensity levels – so if you’re like me and like to start at the lowest speed, you’ll have to manually turn it down every time you turn it on.
Final Thoughts
The buzz and loudness of this wand makes it less than ideal for me, so the main reason I recommend it to people is that price is a major factor for them. (This is a very effective factor!)
So, here are some questions to ask yourself. Are you looking for a super affordable wand? Do you like or don’t particularly mind buzzing/high-pitch vibrations? Are you okay with your toys being a little loud? If the answer to all three questions is yes, then I think the Romulus Shop Olympia Wand is worth considering. A wand vibrator can be a versatile addition to just about anyone’s toy collection, since it can be used solo or with a partner, and I love that there are body-safe options like the Olympia for under $40 so more people can afford intense vibrations. This wand also has the added bonus of being waterproof, very lightweight, and easy to wave.
I think so yes Wand Girl, because I want everyone to be able to afford a wand. For that, I’m glad Olympia exists.
