Reasonable or not? Context matters.

I would like to introduce you to the concept of “situationally sound”.

Imagine that you and your wife are lost in the wilderness and dangerously hungry. In this case, it is also reasonable to feed her larvae. The same quote for the backyard at home is unreasonable.

Understanding the situation is an important part of knowing whether something is reasonable.

Two marriage applications:

1. When you think your wife has done something unreasonable, first understand the situation before asking her what made her do what she did.
2. When you do something weird because it makes sense under the circumstances, tell your wife first about your situation before telling her what you did. Likewise, when you’re about to suggest something weird; first clarify the circumstances that make your suggestion less crazy than usual.
