She is considering divorce.
Dubai Princess Sheikha Maha bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched a new fragrance called “Divorce” eight weeks after splitting from her husband, who she said was “busy with other partners”.
The radical royal, 30, unveiled the fragrance on Instagram on Monday, where it quickly garnered tens of thousands of likes and drew praise from feminists who called the unconventional move empowering.
The playfully named fragrance is the first product from the new beauty brand, Mahra M1.
In July, the princess and perfumer announced the end of her marriage in a social post by spraying perfume to her husband, industrialist Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum.
“Since you have other partners, I hereby declare divorce. I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you,” she wrote.
The post appeared to invoke a controversial strategy: a man can divorce his wife instantly with just three declarations.
Mahla’s post caused shock waves in the UAE, with many initially believing the royal’s Instagram account had been hacked.
The two have been married for only a year and currently have a 4-month-old daughter.
Mahla is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.
The princess is one of Mohammed’s 26 children.
Mahala’s mother, Zoe Grigorakos, is Greek, and Mahala is described as the “more modern member” of her family, Tatler reported.
Fans commented on Mahala’s “divorce” announcement, with one person writing: “In 2024, women won’t cry. We’ll start new businesses!”
Another cheered: “I’m sure this smells like freedom.”
“You are incredible,” said a third. “Goosebumps. You are not a princess. You are a queen.”
