Nipple Toys 101 – Learn the Basics
3.1K
Now it’s time to learn about the toys that will make your nipples tingle, throb, and ache. Here’s a quick guide to get you started (including fun things you can do with them).
Let’s start with the types of nipple toys you can use with your hands and breasts…
clamp, Clamps, claws, pins
I’ve lumped all of these together because they all do the same thing (compress the nipple).
- Fixture – Just like you’d traditionally imagine, although they come in a variety of styles (including alligator clips, clover clips, and tweezer clips). If you want something more beginner-friendly, anything “adjustable” will do. Learn more about clamps in this article.
- clamp – The main difference between clamps and pliers is that clamps have a smaller tip that compresses the skin, whereas pliers are usually two long objects (like chopsticks, pencils, etc.) that are fixed at the ends (usually with a rubber band) and the nipple is caught in the middle. Clamps are much more painful.
- Claws – Four round metal pieces pop out of a syringe-like metal tube. When they retract, they grab the skin and pierce it. The needle tip can be very sharp. Be sure to understand their “strength” before putting them on (you don’t want them to bleed or cause excessive pain that your partner wouldn’t agree to).

- PIN – Good old-fashioned clothespins (yes, the kind you use for washing clothes). Be careful though, most clothespins are pretty tight and can be quite painful. Be sure to test them on your own body to see if the pressure is within your/your partner’s comfort range.
magnet

How tight they are depends on the magnet – some will be very tight; others may be too cheap and fall off easily, and even strong magnets may slip off during rough play or a serious struggle.
Also, don’t confuse it with jewelry used for piercings.
weight

As long as the hoop fits over the clamp, you can probably skip the BDSM store and head to your local hardware or tackle store. If you’re unsure, buy a few hoops in different weights so you can test them out with your partner to find a comfortable sweet spot.
Vibrator
Another accessory option is a vibrator. These can be part of a clamp (often doubling as a weight) or they can be used just for sensation (like the one below). If you or your partner orgasms from breast play alone, these are definitely worth a try.

Pumps and Suction Cups
Imagine using a short, stubby turkey dropper to stimulate your breasts. You squeeze the little hollow ball on the end (some may require turning the handle), slip it over your nipple, and slowly release/twist it. The vacuum pulls the skin into the tube. If you want something that provides “broad” stimulation rather than pinprick-like stimulation, this is a good choice.

Nipple covers and tassels

Plus, nipple covers come in all sorts of designs for just about any occasion you can think of. Oh, and don’t forget about edible nipple covers!
Jewelry

If you’re not into nipple covers and tassels and want something a little more elegant (or sparkly), you can peel off the plastic sheet with pre-arranged gemstones and place it over your breasts.
They are more of a decoration than a toy, but still worth having.
Electrical stimulation

Personally, I prefer ones designed purely for e-stim and the like, as they are generally safer.
How to unleash creativity?
Yes, you can use them as part of any BDSM scene. But there are other ways to enjoy nipple toys.
- Part of the punishment
- Part of the reward
- Playing alone, seeking pleasure or pain
- Combine with other forms of breast play
- Pinching other parts of the body
- Wearing it under clothes in public
- Used as a means of humiliation
- Used to train slaves
- As a quirky clothing accessory
- Part of a sexy game
- Perfect for a gag gift or bachelorette gift
Cleaning and care
The tricky thing about nipple toys is that most of them have little nooks and crannies where liquids and other stuff can get stuck.
If you’re just dealing with sweat, this isn’t a big deal, but if things like wax, other body fluids, oils, dirt, etc. get in, you’ll need to be very diligent about cleaning and disinfecting (especially if you’re doing anything that damages the skin).
- Wash with soap and warm water first
- Be aware of places where dirt and grime can easily hide
- Disinfect with a 10% bleach solution, then rinse
- Boil only if the material allows
- Dry in the sun
- Store safely in a bag or small box
- Check the vibrator for lint or broken parts
- Remove the battery after the game (if any)
