My daughter cheated on her husband – I helped her do it

Sophie, 35, seems to have the ideal life: two children, a successful husband to whom she has been married for ten years, a job she loves and a beautiful family home.

But her mum Sally, 60, said Sophie was living a lie and even helped her keep her “secret”.

What’s worse is that Sally doesn’t feel any guilt about it. In fact, she enjoyed it.

“I helped her cover her tracks”

“Looking after my two precious grandchildren while my only daughter is dating is my favorite thing to do,” she wrote in an article for The Sun.

But Sophie has never had dinner with her husband, she’s meeting her secret lover, and her mother is helping her cover her tracks.

Sally was apparently the only one who knew that her daughter had been secretly cheating on the father of her children for the past two years.

So why is she so willing to help and even enjoy it?

Because, in her own words, “I never liked my daughter’s husband, Dave, but I always knew she could do better.”

“When I was first introduced to him in a restaurant in 2013, I thought he was arrogant, loud, and self-righteous,” she explained. “At the time, I was convinced the relationship was going to fail. She had had boyfriends before and had always been independent, but I was frustrated when I saw her doting on Dave.

“Sophie, then 23, was beautiful, smart, witty, had a great job in PR and had her pick of men. I knew she would come to her senses soon.”

But to her horror, Dave proposed just two years into their relationship.

Two years of deception

Sally’s heart sank, but she cheered them on dutifully, secretly hoping that her daughter would change her mind before the big day.

“At one point, I gingerly asked her if this was indeed what she wanted,” she said, “but she snapped and said, of course it was. I never said anything again, fearing it would lead to something between us. Estrangement. Sophie knew I never had a crush on Dave, so she would always make excuses for him when he forgot her birthday or didn’t attend big family events.”

When Sophie became a mother, she gave up her career to look after the children, while Dave became less and less involved in family life.

“Sophie struggled to take care of two young children and a family without a life of her own,” she continued. “I know Sophie is starting to resent him.”

Sophie eventually went back to work part-time and she began to mention a colleague named Ben more and more. But Sally noticed that when she talked to Dave, she kept leaving his name out of the conversation.

“One day, while Dave was away playing golf again for the weekend, Sophie asked me if I would mind looking after the kids so she could go for a drink after get off work,” says Sally. “She would never have gone if Dave was home – even though he was always out with friends – so of course I said yes.

When she got home, she often mentioned Ben and laughed at the things he said to her. Seeing her happy look made me excited. . . But there is also skepticism. I told her without hesitation that if she ever wanted to go out drinking with Ben again, I would always look after the kids.

“She gave me a knowing smile – she understood me completely. After I had babysat a few times, she came to my house unannounced for a cup of tea at noon. ‘Ben and I were having an affair, Mum, ” she admitted.

I smiled and she quickly changed the subject, obviously happy to reveal her secret. When she left, I threw my arms around her and assured her that her secret was safe with me. “
