Men need to lower the standards for dating apps, new research

"Men tend to express interest in women who prefer themselves to women, and women usually pursue more similar men," The team found out.

There has long been a theory that 80% of women are pursuing the top 20% of men on dating apps – but new research shows that it is actually the lad who is aiming too high when waving love.

International researchers analyzed the behavior of nearly 3,000 heterosexual users of Czech dating apps, whose findings were earlier this week in PLOS one Magazine.

The team found: “Men tend to express interest in women who are preferred to themselves, and women usually pursue men with more similar expectations.”

To classify the ideal level of each user, the researchers calculated the number of brushes they received from other people on the app.

There are more male users, which means female users “usually rank higher in this hierarchy.”

Despite being spoiled for choice, the study shows that women sometimes “on average selected partners choose slightly ideal partners.”

However, the study shows that successful matches tend to “occur between desirable levels with similar degrees.”

Therefore, to avoid frustration and rejection when using dating apps, research shows that men should be about their desirable reality rather than trying to date the alliance.

“Our research on Czech online dating apps shows that while men often aim at the person they choose to contact, successful matches tend to be among those with similar desirables. This pattern is largely the result of rejection rather than an initial preference for similarity.”

“Successful matching outcomes tend to align more closely with women’s preferences. This may reflect women’s position in the online dating market, as men outnumber women and often take the first step.”
