Learning through fact and fiction

Mad Woman: Trauma or Curse?

While we love a good, lighthearted book, it can be fun to delve deeper into a specific topic. At FBC, we know we can do that through both fiction and nonfiction. In this episode, Nox shares a nonfiction book about reproductive health that made her realize she still had a lot to learn. Then, Renee talks to Monique Roffey about femicide in the Caribbean in her new book, Passiontide.

This is not hysteria: Comments (0:21)

Nox discusses Karen Tang’s It’s Not Hysteria, an important (and gender-inclusive!) book about the reproductive system. Tune in to hear why the book was so meaningful to her and how it empowered her to learn more.

Femicide in the Caribbean (10:50)

Renee chats to Monique Roffey, author of the new book, Passion, about femicide in the Caribbean. Passion is a fictional novel inspired by the protests by women in Trinidad following the murder of a Japanese steel drum player in Trinidad in 2016. Monique shares the alarming statistics on the murder of women around the world, and in Trinidad in particular, and why writing about this issue is so important to her.
