Japanese Pokemon Happy Meal Event Ended After a Day

Starting Saturday, August 9, McDonald’s Japan has had a special collaboration with one of the world’s most popular gaming franchises. The plan is three days, and the Happy Meal at the fast food chain (called Happy Set here) will be equipped with two exclusive Pokemon cards. Customers are limited to purchases of no more than five sets per person, McDonald’s Japan shares information with online marketplace app Mercari to prevent card resale.

Pokemon Happy Meal Activities last for a day

Not surprisingly, it doesn’t work. The event lasted only one day and several media ran out of cards. Some customers reportedly used multiple accounts to bypass five beautiful restrictions. Not that they are hungry or bought for a large family, but just want to master the precious property: Pikachu’s original illustrations are apart from a randomly selected card, because these items have a great resale value.

Online videos are scattered online in the chaotic scenes of stores that have to cope with extremely long queues and large purchases. A video on X allegedly showed customers trying to buy 40 happy meals to fight others. Hysterical hysteria also leads to food waste, as some people buy packages just to get cards. Once they receive them, they leave unedible food in the restaurant or pour it on the street.

McDonald’s Japan apologizes

On Saturday, McDonald’s Japan apologized on its website for “not meeting customer expectations.” The reason was “selling higher than expected,” the company said. Realizing this is a deficient reaction, the fast food chain issued a statement on Monday: “McDonald’s does not tolerate buying happy settings for the purpose of resale, nor tolerating wasting or disposing of food. This incident clearly goes against our long-standing philosophy of providing children and families with interesting dining experiences, as well as our restaurant values, and our restaurants.

In May, McDonald’s Japan collaborated with popular character Chiikawa to release Happy Meals, and something similar happened. Social media posts show that protein protein bulk meals are only used to buy limited edition toys to resell them. After grabbing the items, they gave up on the food. The toys then appeared on the resale site and their original retail price was about six or seven times. The special cooperation package sold out within two days.
