It’s okay to say “no”

No is a complete sentence and requires no explanation.
For some of us, the hardest word to pronounce in the entire English language is “no.” Even if we really want to, we can’t seem to say it. Someone asks us to do something, and our brain screams, “Dear God, no! That sounds bad.” Meanwhile, our stomach and neck muscles get knotted because we know we don’t want to do that to someone else Things we are asked to do. Then we open our mouths and say, “Of course, I’d love to.” Saying “yes” when we’d rather say “no” can create stress, anxiety, and even depression, all of which can lead us back into addiction. In recovery, if our brains, bodies, and hearts are saying “no,” our mouths can follow suit.
