Islam found on the failed island in Kuwait
Ancient wells dating from the 7th to 8th centuries have been found on the island of Failaka in Kuwait. The Islamic front well is 15 feet long and 13 feet wide, which is an unusually large example built next to an ancient waterway. What is really unique is that it is still producing abundant water.
Failaka Island is an island 12 miles from the coast of Kuwait City. Since Sumer, he was discharged from Sumer at the confluence of Shatt Al-Arab, Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, 60 miles south of Shatt Al-Arab. Traders of Ur settled around 2000 B.C., using their strategic locations to protect their maritime routes, building two ports on its excellent natural ports. Mesopotamian-style buildings have been excavated in the Southwest Harbour in Failaka, which contains artifacts from far away from India and cylinder seals recording the sale and transportation of goods.
Failaka became part of the Dilmun Kingdom, a commercial and cultural hub of the region encompassing modern-day Kuwait, Bahrain and eastern Saudi Arabia, around 1800 BC It flourished under Dilum until the middle of the 1st millennium BC, and was still well-populated when Alexander the Great explored it in the 4th century BC In the Hellenistic era, Failaka came under the rule of the Seleucid Empire and was later annexed by Rome. It attracted new settlers in the early Christian era, and the Christian community was active until the 9th century until the Islamic period.
In such a small space, Failaka is an unparalleled source of business, culture and life in the Persian Gulf for thousands of years in such a long and diverse history. Excavations began in 1958, after a brief interruption in the First Gulf War, Iraqi troops occupied the island as part of the invasion of Kuwait by Sadam Hussein, and since then, they have continued to discover more than 90 archaeological sites in 10 major areas.
Since 2019, the Kuwait-Slovakia joint archaeological mission has been excavating the Kusur region in the center of the island. The site is rich in archaeological materials from Christianity, pre-Islamic and Islamic periods. The well was found in the ruins of a large building dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries. Even the fragments matter: one of them has a stamp with a gazelle, the logo of its manufacturer. The excavation also found more than 11 pounds of gems, including rubies and amethyst.
Archaeologists believe this is a family or administrative building for very wealthy people. It is over 1,000 square feet of the area and is the largest home on the island. It has a high defensive wall around it, which is no surprise to give the enormous wealth of the gems it contains.
