‘Intense competition’ is driving demand for hockey porn

Pornhub has revealed that the number of women watching X-rated videos is surging:

Thanks to the success of the spicy hockey romance drama The Rivalry, fans are more seeking out hockey-inspired porn than ever.

Apparently, slapping is the new way to make money, as searches for “hockey” on Pornhub have climbed to +617%, according to the porn site, averaging +309% since the show premiered on November 28.

Female viewers can’t get enough of NSFW content.

The site found that searches for hockey increased by 273% among female viewers, while searches among male viewers increased by 148%.

The following hockey-related search terms are currently the most popular on the site.

“Pornhub’s insights often reflect resonances in the broader culture,” Alex Kekesi, Pornhub’s vice president of brand and community, told The Washington Post.

“When a major pop culture moment sparks conversation, we often see that interest reflected in the search behavior of users on the platform,” he continued.

for The Uninitiated, The Rivalry, an HBO Max series based on the novel by Rachel Reid, fSean Holland (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Story) are two professional hockey players who have a years-long romance off the ice.

The show is popular for its emotional complexity and extended NSFW sex scenes, inspiring a “rabid fanbase”, particularly among female fans.

“From a jump, [series creator Jacob Tierney] “He told me there was going to be a lot of sex in it because that was important,” Reed told Slate. “It wasn’t going to fade and it wasn’t going to be a ‘blowjob suggestion’… He would say, ‘We’re going to be as explicit as possible.'”

Interestingly, the first season was very close to PG13.

Tierney told Slate that when he first shopped for his adaptation, multiple Hollywood executives suggested waiting until the second season to add sex scenes.

“I was like, ‘What the f*ck are you talking about?!'” Tierney told the outlet. “These are erotic books. Do you think the audience is still here? That’s what they’re here for. That’s what they want.”

He added, “I’m glad I trusted my gut. I don’t think if I had followed the advice or the notes that I was given, I wouldn’t have made a show that would have been satisfying to people, especially the core fan base. I certainly don’t think we would have gotten the reaction that we’ve gotten.”

A release date for The Rivalry Season 2 has yet to be announced, but until then it looks like fans will be grinding themselves out with X-rated hockey-related content.
