Illinois bill HB3518 legalizes prostitution

Illinois House of Representatives Act No. 3518, proposed at the 104th Congress, is known as “maintaining sex workers’ safety behavior.” It aims to legalize consented sexual work by prohibiting law enforcement from arresting, charging or prosecution of individuals solely for the purpose of engaging in or performing sexual work.

The bill establishes the Sex Workers Rights Act, which grants the same labor protection as other workers in Illinois law, whether it is employment, contracting or self-employed. These protections include minimum wage, anti-discrimination and harassment safeguards, compensation for workers and health benefits (if applicable), and privacy rights.

It also ensures safe working conditions, prevents exploitation, and allows sex workers to operate as legal businesses when self-employed. The bill repealed offenses related to prostitution in the 2012 Criminal Code and came into force immediately upon passage.

Hope it will be included in the law
