I now announce that you are rescinding your invitation.

A Reddit user named @Powerful-Lettuce-999 posted online that she was disinvited from a friend’s wedding after she paid more than $1,000 for a flight to Asia.

The user shared her unfortunate experience on August 25, detailing her dismay when she found out she could no longer attend her bride’s celebrations.

“I was so embarrassed because I had already told my friends and family that I was invited to a destination wedding and telling people I wasn’t invited was so embarrassing,” she wrote.

As the wedding approached, the bride contacted her circle of friends to inform them that she did not have adequate accommodation, so they could not attend.

“Hey guys, I’m sorry to tell you, but I don’t have any wedding accommodations left for you. I sincerely apologize. I hope you haven’t booked your tickets yet,” the friend wrote.

The Reddit user was shocked to hear the news and privately messaged her to let her know she was already scheduled for a destination wedding.

“I actually just booked my tickets 3 days ago because our agent knew and found out something,” she wrote. “I will try to cancel but I don’t think I can. I know the seats are for family only so that’s ok, no worries.”

Despite her disappointment, the disinvited wedding guest tried to make sense of the unfortunate situation.

Luckily, she didn’t have to grieve for too long, as the bride gave in and confirmed that “she’d figure something out” so her friend could attend the wedding.

However, her only condition was to keep it a secret from her other unexpected girlfriends.

“Please don’t tell anyone else. She said the hotel staff wouldn’t budge on accommodations or anything else,” the bride said.

The NDA didn’t feel right, so she considered not going.

“I feel absolutely sick about all of this. I wish she would at least extend the wedding invite and if they can’t provide accommodation I would understand and book my own,” she revealed.

The Redditor claimed that if she canceled her flight she might have received a partial refund, but if she attended the wedding she would have felt bad for her friends not being able to attend.

Not knowing what to do, she asked Reddit users for help, “Please [give me] “Any suggestions?”

One person suggested: “If I had already bought the tickets, I would have gone on a mini vacation whether she wanted me to come to the wedding or not.”

Another wrote: “I feel like she invited way more people than she could accommodate and she didn’t expect that many people would actually show up for her destination wedding.”

“No hotels or Airbnbs in the area?” one Redditor asked.

The original poster responded: “There are a lot. That’s why I’m confused. Like, I’m going to ask her again if the question is about accommodation or the size of the wedding.”

“You shouldn’t be embarrassed at all but your friends should be shocked. What they did was extremely rude,” one person commented.

“Fuck your ‘friends’. If you can’t cancel your flight, just go somewhere else. Life is too short to have people like this around you,” one Redditor said.
