Husband refuses to disclose salary to wife

Finances are always a tough topic that people don’t want to discuss. However, one would think that if anyone was going to reveal their annual salary, it would be their spouse—well, not in this marriage.

A frustrated wife took to Reddit for advice on how to deal with her husband’s reluctance to disclose his income. In a now-deleted post on Reddit’s r/AITA forum, the original poster shared the story of how she and her husband have been together for nine years and married for one.

She revealed that he had always kept his finances a secret – one would think that would change once marriage was on the table – and now he is responsible for all the couple’s finances while she looks after their home and makes sure the fridge is stocked.

“We appear to have accepted this arrangement without any issues on either side,” she wrote in the post. “He never disclosed how much money he made each year or gave me any insight into his financial situation.”

“He also bought our new house without me even knowing he bought it, saying it was a surprise,” OP shared. “I did visit it before and really liked it, so that’s not an issue, it’s just that I wasn’t involved in the decision-making.”

Although the wife doesn’t seem to be very aware of their spending, she shared in the post that she’s at least starting to keep track of her expenses because she uses her own money to pay for her stuff.

However, she did not know how much her husband earned and he would not produce her bank account or statements. Instead, he asked her to assume that he made a lot of money for the two of them based on the material wealth they had as a couple.

“I said I understood that, but I felt like if I were to have a baby with you and become more dependent, I wanted to fully understand. He said it didn’t matter and that I would tell someone else,” she wrote.

Reddit users had no idea. “These are things you need to talk about before you get married, but I guess better late than never. This is Very He refuses to let you know about his financial situation. NTA,” one shocked commenter wrote under the wife’s post.

“Get a full-time job. Make sure you don’t get pregnant. Run,” others advised.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time the selfish husband has exhibited some strange behavior.

“If he doesn’t have you in a bank account, don’t get pregnant. This could be his way of trying to control you financially,” another commenter quipped.

A selfish husband who was forced to stay at home to look after his and his wife’s children due to health reasons complained about looking after the children while his wife was away at work.

The frustrated wife had to come home after a long day at work, complaining that she had to take care of her children. The wife wrote on the British community website Mumsnet: “He picks up and drops off the kids one at a time. The rest of the time he can do what he wants.”
