Reservations and check-in: things to do with caution
There are two main ways to book a love hotel in Tokyo: online or in person. Online bookings can be made through most regular booking websites. Websites often provide detailed descriptions and photos of rooms. When booking online, you’ll also be prompted to choose between two options: Rest or Stay?
- Breaks: These are short-term bookings, usually lasting one to three hours. This is the perfect place if you want a quick break during the day or a brief moment of romance. Rest accommodation is generally cheaper and availability is often better during off-peak times. Peak times are at night, but conditions may vary.
- Accommodation: If you plan to stay overnight, you will need to select accommodation booking. Accommodation bookings usually start in the evening (usually around 10pm) and continue until the morning. These are more expensive than rest options but offer the benefit of enjoying the room and its facilities for longer periods of time.
If you’re traveling spontaneously, visiting a love hotel in person is part of the excitement. When you walk in, there is a panel or vending machine showing pictures of the available rooms. Press the button to select a room and you will receive a key or code. During busy times, you may need to wait in the lobby.
Go to your room
After booking, you need to find your room. If you book online, your room number will usually be sent to you via email or text message, or you may receive it when you check in. If the access is spontaneous, the room number will be displayed immediately, usually with a key or access code. Some hotels even assign automatic elevators that go directly to your floor without any buttons.
Room
Tokyo love hotel rooms are more than just places to sleep. Unless you choose a very cheap option, most hotels offer a variety of entertainment options and other amenities to enhance your stay.
From massage chairs to karaoke machines to hot tubs, you’ll find something fun to do whether you book a short break or a full night.
Many rooms also feature mood lighting that can be adjusted to create a more romantic atmosphere. There is usually a large TV with a variety of channels available. Some hotels even offer a range of sterilized adult toys, often labeled “massagers,” for you to use, and most hotels will throw in a free condom or two.
Extend your stay
If you accidentally fall asleep or lose track of time, the hotel will automatically extend your stay and charge additional fees.
Leaving the love hotel
Once your stay is over, leave the love hotel with the same caution as when you arrived. Many rooms have separate exits to ensure maximum privacy, so you are less likely to encounter other guests. If you pay in advance when checking in, you just close the door behind you and leave your key at reception. In some cases, you may be asked to check out through a vending machine or terminal at the exit. For overnight guests, check-out time is usually listed on your reservation.
