My most memorable girls’ summer was in 2013. That was the year my three best friends and I road-tripped to Caribana in Toronto (kind of like Carnivale), and spent four days and nights straight complaining and rubbing shoulders with friendly strangers, all while staying hydrated, of course. We were all single (well, mostly) and our jobs were flexible. While I will never be one of those people who posts super excited pictures of their Covid vaccine, and while I have never been super enthusiastic or trusting of pharmaceutical companies, the fact remains that they still sometimes provide incredibly important treatments, and the Covid-19 vaccines are one of them. While studies are still ongoing to see how long the vaccines will last, whether we will need boosters from time to time, whether the current vaccines will effectively resist all the variants (there are new ones all the time!), etc., etc., etc., the reality is that the numbers are down and every day a larger percentage of the population is getting closer to getting vaccinated. This means that individual freedoms will soon increase again – and in many places, the reopening of public spaces is already a thing of the past.

While I may be the last person on earth to advocate caution when it comes to the virus, and while masks and some level of distancing are bound to have a place in our lives for the foreseeable future, I think it’s time for us all to take a deep breath—inhale and exhale that sweet summer air, why don’t you? The dust hasn’t settled yet, true, but we’re all a little safer than we were before. If we continue to take the necessary precautions, there’s no reason why we can’t be safe this summer, like hot chicks.

1. Go out and fuck safely.
