Hinge user shocked by discovery after ‘perfect man’ match
This single woman needed a strong internet connection and some good old-fashioned detective work, plus a hand with a ring on it, to find out the truth about her hot Hinge date’s marital status.
In two videos that are now going viral on Instagram, Los Angeles comedian Jasmine Pariani recently detailed how she was delighted to be matched with a “handsome guy” from England who had a six-pack and “loved to cook,” only to find a photo of him wearing a wedding ring the second she scrolled through his profile.
“I thought, wait, wait, wait — is he wearing a wedding ring in all the photos? Like, what’s going on here?” Pariani recalled with a laugh. “So I started looking and I saw some pictures of him and he was wearing a wedding ring.”
Pariani told the audience that she “loves mystery,” and she dug deeper and easily found his company directory, as the future lover listed his work on his Hinge profile. After finding his full name, she typed it into Google, only to find a registry for last week’s vow renewal on wedding website The Knot.
“I’m thinking, oh, this trail, it’s warm. It’s a hot trail, baby!” Pariani said.
After begging her 10-year-old MacBook not to crash before “searching again,” Pariani investigated further, digging into the man’s wife’s LinkedIn. There, she learned the woman’s job might require her to be away for long periods of time.
In her follow-up video, Pariani continued her modern-day anti-fairy tale, sharing that she quickly dug up the man’s wedding registry, and then his wife’s Instagram profile. There, she noticed something “a little strange” – although Pariani followed his wife to the game, she didn’t follow him back.
Regardless, Pariani wanted to warn the man’s wife about her husband’s inappropriate behavior and considered sending her a message. But first, she pitched the idea to her “committee” of friends — “because sometimes, I can’t trust myself to make decisions,” she quipped.
A friend advised Pariani not to message his wife yet and suggested she bring up the issue in her own match first because she thought they “wouldn’t necessarily have enough information to send a private message to his wife.”
Pariani took a friend’s advice and arranged a FaceTime call with her potential marriage partner. As soon as the man’s video appeared, Pariani scanned his background for any sign of a feminine aesthetic touch, but found none.
Perhaps sensing the shift in tone, Pariani’s game immediately came out to say that he was “going through a divorce” and “it hasn’t been finalized yet.”
“I thought, you know what? That makes sense. Because the vow renewal that I found – like The Knot website – it was a vow renewal. They’d been married for five years, so that wasn’t a good sign.”
However, commenters seemed to generally disagree, with one post writing, “Why renew when you got divorced a week ago?”
Another commented: “Tell the wife…I won’t believe him.”
While Pariani seemed to accept the man’s alleged explanation, she did have some thoughts on how easy it is to find people’s personal information on the internet.
“I will say, when I was Nancy Drew-ing … I discovered a short film that this guy starred in in 2016! I would say it was so easy to find information,” Pariani said.
“You have to be very careful about how much information you give to strangers on the Internet,” she continued. “Because there are people out there like me who enjoy looking up information for fun!”
