Having a pet is as good as your marriage, or an extra $90k

Single is ruff.

But if you are one of the many single Americans who have pets, you are lucky – the road to happiness is printed with paws, science says.

The researchers analyzed data from 2,500 British families and found that the psychological benefits of human partners are comparable to those of human partners.

And, if you’re still chasing the American dream – you might want to consider chasing your dog around the park, as the same study found that the joy of owning a pet is equivalent to getting an extra $90,000 a year.

Previous research shows that owning a pet can bring many health benefits.

Research shows that spending time with a dog can reduce stress, stay active and help you for longer.

Meanwhile, touching a cat has been shown to lower blood pressure and heart rate, which may be why cat owners have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

But the new study, published in the journal Social Indicators Research, quantifiable numbers on this unconditional love, suggesting that pet ownership increases life satisfaction by three to four points, compared to one to seven.

The study, led by Dr. Adelina Gschwandtner, professor of economics at the University of Kent, UK, also sheds light on the personality traits of pet owners, noting that “while cat-keeping caregivers appear to be more open-minded, dog owners seem to be more coat-like, pleasing, and more vague.”

However, the authors noted: “In general, pet caregivers are generally more open, serious and outgoing than non-pet caregivers.”

There is no doubt that some say they love their furry companions more than their siblings, partners, and even moms.

The author wrote: “This article answers whether pets are good for us in general,”

After all, you can’t buy happiness – but you can buy a Golden Hound, which is basically the same thing.
