Even if you’re not a gamer, you’ve most likely heard of Ghost of Tsushima. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, this 2020 action game absolutely rocked the world by depicting the first Mongol invasion of Japan from the perspective of protagonist Jin Sakai. Fans have been craving for more content ever since. Next year, those dreams will finally come true in the form of Ghost of Yotei.
The story of the Yotei Mountain ghost
according to PlayStation Official BlogThe Ghost of Mount Yotei will feature a new protagonist, Atsu, whose journey will take place in the lands surrounding Mount Yotei in 1603, the peak and center of the Ezo region, located in modern-day Hokkaido.
Not much has been revealed about the plot yet, but fans are speculating that the story will focus on the Ainu, the indigenous people of Japan. This is because 1603 was before the large-scale settlement of Hokkaido by the Japanese.
While Yotei may not be a true sequel, the developers reiterated their desire to retain the core pillars established in the previous game, including playing as a wandering warrior in feudal Japan, the freedom to explore at your own pace, and highlighting the beauty of the world. As the game is built from the ground up for PlayStation 5, it should take advantage of the device’s technological advances to create a more expansive and compelling world.
About Mt. Yotei
Mount Yotei is an extinct volcano located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park in Hokkaido. Due to its similarity to Mount Fuji, it is sometimes referred to as Ezo Fuji. Standing at 1,898 meters tall, the mountain is a popular climb for hikers due to the stunning views from the summit. The park is home to plants and native animals such as the Alpine Hare, Hokkaido Squirrel, and Japanese Deer. We’re excited to see how the developers will capture such a lush and rich area in the upcoming game.
