Four out of 10 adults admit that their partner is “not their paper type” but their relationship is happy anyway.

A poll of 2,000 adults coupled to adults found that 57% believed in the motto of “opposition attraction”.

A spokesman for Tim Tam commissioned the study to launch new sweet and salty cookies, saying: “It’s formal, the opposite really appeals – both in relationships and with food.

“But it’s surprising how many couples feel they aren’t exactly synced with the people they sync with.

“From what football teams you support to the rugby teams you have dinner on Sunday night, this can come in many different forms.

“Compromises are usually the name of the game, whether it’s in what activities you do or what you eat – so our sweet and salty cookies hopefully help save some of the debate.”

Other relative characteristics couples include one being a Christmas lover and the other being a “Grinch” (12%).

While 24% think half of the duo is an early bird, at sunrise, the other is a duo and the other takes longer to get out of bed.

But 28% say they and their partner are “similar in all the right ways”, while 66% of those with different views say “make things fun.”

Likewise, 64% of people who are with the ones they are opposite were surprised and they ended up with such a partner.

The majority of the areas where partners disagree are social life (35%), neatness (32%) and communication styles (32%).

From a political standpoint, only one in five (21%) think they are completely aligned with their partner.

According to OnePoll.com, there is usually a 28% preference difference in terms of preferences in terms of food.

Therefore, 16% of people usually have differences on what they receive or what they have supper.

A spokesperson for Tim Tam, who has launched a limited edition sweet and salty cookies specifically at Tesco, added: “With a different perspective, having different advantages, or approaching life in another way, can bring new perspectives into a relationship.

“It encourages both sides to grow, challenge assumptions and learn from each other.

“These contrasts can help balance and create a dynamic that makes them unique.”
