FF: Lighting the Spiritual Fire: A Guide to Shared Faith

Today I will end my torture of heating and insulation metaphors by discussing the dangers of mental coldness.

Most of us understand the importance of spiritual life. However, accepting the importance and actually doing something that benefits the field are two different things. Because the spirit is invisible, it’s easy to ignore it or put it on the list of priorities that we pay little attention to.

More relevant to this blog than personal needs is the need to “walk together” with my wife. So, here are some ideas to keep you and your lady warm on your spiritual journey:

  • Study the Bible together. Lori has a great article on this.
  • Set aside time each week to discuss where you both are mentally.
  • Share with your wife what you are praying for and what you want her to pray for you. Encourage her to share the same thing with you.
  • Get together alone at least once a year to talk and pray about what happened last year and what you hope to see next year. (Your anniversary is a good time to do this.)
  • Go to church together and discuss messages/lessons/sermons.
  • Find faith-based retreats for couples or solo. If she wants to go to a women’s retreat, do whatever it takes to make it possible.
