Gifts: The most important thing is the idea. But is it really so?

For most of us, that’s true. A gift says: “I’m thinking of you”, a gift of special meaning or relevance says: “I know you well”. These are all messages you want to convey to your wife, and regular small gifts go a long way in conveying this. When I say “small” I mean “it’s not the cost, it’s the idea”. Aim to receive three gifts per month, which might mean four gifts one month and two gifts the next. If the gift is small and cheap, most months it will cost little more than a trip to St. Arbacchus.

Some ideas to get you started

• Flowers: Yes, classic. There’s a good reason for this. Make one or more flowers each month.
• A card: Real paper envelope cards. Write something good and that’s a gift.
• Coupon: This is the perfect gift for a giving girl or a gift of your time. There are some beautiful printed coupons on the marriage bed.
• Collection: Preferably something she’s already collected. This could be a specific item, such as a brand of statue, or anything with a specific symbol or animal.
• candy Nuts, or something: Iif she wasn’t on a diet!
• Anything that disappears from your home: Pen, scissors, AA batteries…
• Bookmarks: If she were a reader.
• Care items: Such as bubble bath, hand cream, soap…

To wrap your gifts, or not to wrap them. Leave them outside or hide them somewhere she will encounter them.

Is three gifts a month a lot? Maybe, but the process of thinking about it and trying to come up with better and better ideas will help you get to know her better and show her that you’re getting to know her better. It’s a win-win!
