Five years ago, Pani met her senior Massimo, who was her high school philosophy teacher at the time.
“I had a crush on him… nothing happened… Years later we met again – as two adults – and that’s when the love really started,” she explained on Instagram account @diaryofminea.
The couple met in a bookstore two years ago, started dating and got married last month.
“Christmas feels a little sweeter this year… maybe because I get to spend it with the man I’ve only ever dreamed of,” Pani captioned the Instagram video, which has been viewed 16 million times.
But online trolls questioned May’s relationship with December – assuming she was after the euros.

Paney told The Washington Post that it’s all about love.
“I was fascinated by his intelligence, his sunny disposition, his values, his boundless love for knowledge and learning, his curiosity about all aspects of life and his lack of prejudice,” she gushed.
In another video, which has been viewed 4 million times, Pani compared photos of them from 2010 – when he was 45 and she was 5 – which also caused a stir online, with some commenting, “You got it wrong” and “It’s not what you think.”
Other eagle-eyed viewers spotted Massimo, now a professor, wearing what they thought was a Rolex watch.
“He’s got $60,000 on his wrist. Now it all makes sense,” they quipped.
“He doesn’t own, wear or even want a Rolex,” Parney told The Washington Post. “He has two beautiful watches, one of which was a gift from me, and he values them very much.”
Pani told The Washington Post that Massimo fully supports her documenting their journey on social media.
“He understands that storytelling is part of who I am and he trusts my intentions. We’re very aligned in what we share and why we share it,” she said.
Pani, who is now studying medicine, said in another post, “Although he is no longer my official teacher, he will always be a professor in my heart.”
“Too bad he didn’t teach you manners,” one troll retorted.
Paney told The Washington Post that her parents did question the relationship at first.
“But once they saw how respected, supported and happy I was, they believed in my choice. Today, they see the love and stability we share,” she said.
Some online came to her defense, saying she didn’t need anyone to explain.
“Love knows no age,” someone said.
“Love does know age,” someone retorted. “You need to get help.”
