A luxurious theater experience
109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku is located on the ninth and tenth floors of Tokyu Kabukicho Tower and has 752 seats and 8 screens, including 1 theater with panoramic Screen X technology. Every seat in every theater is plush and spacious, with reclining capabilities and personal side tables. Additionally, each theater is equipped with surround-sound speakers and sound design overseen by legendary composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, creating an otherworldly listening experience.
Showing its appreciation for old-school film craftsmanship, 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku also features a theater dedicated to showing 35mm film films, one of only a few theaters in Tokyo to do so. 109 Cinemas Premium regularly shows movies with English subtitles (where available), meaning international guests can also enjoy the experience.
Relax in the lounge and bar
The cost of every movie ticket includes access to the theater’s dedicated lounge, a luxurious and calm room with ample seating where guests can chat and relax before the movie begins. The purpose of the lounge is to reset the senses and prepare for the upcoming cinematic experience; an ambient soundtrack plays overhead and the room is decorated with a relaxing color palette and warm lighting.
The lounge offers a variety of food and beverages for you to enjoy before and during the movie. The welcome snack stand offers free unlimited popcorn and a variety of unlimited soft drinks. Guests can also head to the on-site bar (named The Bar) for hot dogs, truffle fries, scones, and drinks, whether it’s hard liquor (perhaps from the extensive list of Japanese whiskeys) or non-alcoholic cocktails. The bar is also launching themed limited-time menus to honor movies currently playing in theaters. Guests can enter the lounge one hour before the movie starts to enjoy snacks, sips and relax.
For those with S-class tickets (super-premium, extra-spacious seats occupying the center row of each theater), 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku also operates the Overture Premium Lounge. Get a free cocktail when you enter. This exclusive lounge space will remain open until one hour after the last screening of the night, so that guests can soak in the afterglow of the movie they just watched while overlooking Shinjuku’s city line.
The walls of the lounge and reception area are decorated with carefully curated art pieces, all of which reflect a love of the iconic neighborhood where the film or theater is located – one piece is made from 35mm film and another is printed using traditional dyes The technology pays homage to Shinjuku’s urban landscape. Additionally, the far end of the lounge features large windows overlooking Cinema City Square.
