Death Note returns with new social deduction game

It’s an early 2000s manga series created by Ohba Tashigi and Obata Takeru that tells the story of a high school student who possesses a mysterious black book called the “Death Note” that can kill anyone whose name is written on it. The series caused a huge sensation at home and abroad, so much so that it once became the third best-selling comic book in North America. Now, more than 20 years later, the series is making a comeback with its own game.

The video begins with television footage depicting the distinctive “L” logo, then shows 3D renderings of Light Yagami and the L himself. While the two meditate on the board, actual gameplay is played through smaller, token-sized characters that zip around the board game-style world.

The gameplay looks like an online social deduction game with two sides. The two sides are Light and his followers, who will continue to kill citizens due to accidents, and L and his investigators, who must seize and dispose of the Death Note. The game can accommodate up to 10 players.
