Dating experts reveal huge problems caused by artificiality

A relationship expert warned that AI was used in emotional connection after discovering a man treating chatgpt like his lover.

Australian comedian Blake Pavey appeared on the podcast and revealed he was on the train and noticed a man sending a message to Chatgpt “like his girlfriend”.

He recalled: “He was like, ‘I never been able to connect with someone like you’.’ It was like a huge paragraph.”

“And I was cute at the time – and then I saw that it was a chatbot. I thought, ‘It’s so sad’.”

He said the man was a decent, company guy and he couldn’t help thinking it was “tragic” that he had to turn to AI for relationships.

“You’re just making the guy who falls in love with strippers,” said Pavey, 23.

Relationship expert Samantha Jayne said Pavey pointed out a bigger problem when he was dating.

“People lose the ability to connect with others. It all starts with smartphones, social media, and then makes things worse,” she said.

She said the person Pavey saw on public transport might be afraid of being rejected and lack of trust – he knew the AI wouldn’t turn him down.

“It’s very common that people connect with AI as if they’re connecting with people to meet their needs for connection, intimacy, companionship and emotional support,” she said.

Jayne said there are pros and cons in terms of artificial intelligence. One positive is that it can assist conversation starters who are often struggling.

It also helps in practicing texting. However, negativity includes a lack of authenticity, because when you finally meet, online characters may be very different from reality. She said it can also create deceptive profiles when there are too many enhancements.

“The biggest problem with AI dating is that it creates unhealthy, unrealistic expectations for real relationships,” she said.

“This can also lead to excessive investment in AI relationships and stunting in real-life relationships, so yes, AI has the ability to disrupt human connections.

“It can be seen as being easier for AI to communicate with and respond immediately, so it can be temporarily a compilation of choice.”

When talking about her customers, Jayne said she stressed that relying on AI is like a “training wheel for cycling as an adult.”

She advises: “There is a point in your life where you take responsibility and grow into a healthy adult with a real relationship with yourself and others. Throw away your smartphone for hours, but connect through eye contact, voice and body touch.”
