Date a New York City Democratic speed dating event Trump sabotaged

A Trump supporter ruined a Democratic date event in Manhattan by buying a bunch of tickets and then no-showing, leaving love-seeking lefties out of luck.

The host of the “Date a Dem Speed Dating” event received a blocked phone call shortly before the event was to begin. The event was held at the Rose Hotel on West 25th Street in Chelsea on September 18, the same day as Trump’s rally on Long Island. .

Amber Soletti, an organizer with Single and The City, told The Washington Post, “The gist of what this guy said was ‘If you have a snowflake event, we’re not coming, we’re all on Trump’s General Assembly’.

Attendee Keith Burgun explained that vandals bought a few male tickets, so the ratios were skewed and the mix was awkward.

“When I got there it was just me, one other man and about 10 women,” he said.

Denisha McPherson, a 38-year-old project manager from Brooklyn, said the hopeful singles were “shocked by the situation.”

“We shake our heads and say, ‘How polarized we are that someone would do something so crazy,'” she said.

Organizers scrambled to change the original format, in which singles could go on multiple three- to five-minute dates.

“So we all sat in a circle and basically had some discussions…about people’s experiences with dating and what they’re looking for,” explained Burgun, a 42-year-old game developer who lives in Westchester.

This is the first political speed dating event hosted by Single and The City, which also hosted a Republican speed dating event on September 25th.

The events are open to singles ages 30 to 45, and tickets are $35.

Burgen, who graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase with a degree in political science, said a potential partner’s political party can be a deal breaker.

“I can’t relate to people who support Republicans right now,” he said.

McPherson is more open about dating conservatives.

“I would never say I would never date a Republican,” said McPherson, who recently earned a doctorate in law and policy from Northeastern University. “It depends on the type of Republican.”

Burgen did not form a romantic relationship, but found a potential friend. “I got to know someone as a friend, which was nice,” he said.

Soletti is already planning the next round of political speed dating events — October 16 with Democrats and October 23 with Republicans, this time for singles in their 20s and 30s — he said , the first Republican date event went much better, with 30 people in attendance.

“We think this may be because Republicans have a hard time meeting like-minded singles in New York City, so this event theme is really attractive to them.”
