A series of DACIAN silver jewelry was found in Bresa, Romania. The style of jewelry dates back to around the 1st century BC, and it is the first archaeological evidence to suggest that the Dasian settlements that had not been reached in the Breza region before.

There are six parts in the series: a round steel bracelet with overlapping ends decorated with plant-patterned patterns, a pair of matching knotted fibula with an elongated diamond-shaped plate attached to the spring, a smaller fibula, a smaller fibula, and a smaller sun symbol that may be part of the belt. These three fibula have large spring bow shapes, which are characteristic of the late Daxi’s culture (125-75 BC).

The jewelry together weighs 550 grams, which will be a symbol of the owner’s wealth and social status. They could have been buried as religious products or cached portable wealth during turbulent times.

The artifacts were discovered by two metal detectors this spring and were immediately handed over to state authorities under Romanian law. They are now detained by the Murray County Museum. Archaeologists plan to thoroughly explore the search site in the hope of discovering remains of Daxi’s settlements or fortifications, which may help explain the burial of the jewelry.
