Couple's search for quiet place leads to flooding, train station

A couple looking for a quiet corner to express their love crashed a sprinkler system, flooding a train station and causing delays for concertgoers leaving a major international show.

Victoria Police on Wednesday released images of two people who caused the evacuation of multiple City Loop stations in Melbourne at 10.40pm one night last week.

Police and train operators thought vandals caused the leak under the stairwell, but images now show a cozy couple.

Transport Infrastructure Minister Danny Pearson said on Wednesday: “Metro reviewed the CCTV footage and found a loving couple in the stairwell who had turned on the sprinklers.”

Two people damaged water pipes and fire sprinkler systems in central Melbourne. During the October 10 incident, Grand Central and Flagstaff stations were forced to evacuate.

American singer Olivia Rodrigo had just finished playing when the couple’s tryst caused flooding and the sound of a train squealing.

It is unclear how long police had CCTV footage of the couple before making a public appeal to identify them.

Their pursuit of alone time has certainly taken a very public turn.
