ChatGPT can be used for just about anything, and in the romance world, people use AI tools to plan their weddings, write wedding vows, match on Tinder, and find online partners—even if they’re happily married.
Now, couples are not only using AI to maintain their relationships, but also using ChatGPT to help them win arguments in arguments.
One person shared on Reddit that their girlfriend uses the platform “every time we have a disagreement.”
“AITH [Am I The A–hole] Because she said she needed to stop? ” someone asked in the AITAH subreddit.
The 25-year-old explained that he and his girlfriend, 28, had several big fights and minor disagreements during their eight months of dating. Every time they had a disagreement, the girlfriend would “walk away and discuss the argument with ChatGPT” – sometimes even in the same room.
When she did, he continued, “she would come back with a well-structured argument that broke down everything I said or did during the argument.”
“I explained to her that I didn’t like it when she did that because it made me feel like I was ambushed by a robot’s thoughts and opinions. It’s almost impossible for a human to remember every little detail and break it down bit by bit, but AI has no problem doing this,” the user wrote.
He said that whenever he expressed how he felt about the situation, his girlfriend would tell him “ChatGPT says you’re insecure” or “ChatGPT says you don’t have the emotional bandwidth to understand what I’m saying.”
“My biggest problem is that she created the prompt, so if she explained that I was wrong, then I wouldn’t have had a chance to explain and she would have agreed,” he wrote.
Many in the comments agreed with the user, noting that ChatGPT is “biased against user input.”
“It’s literally programmed to tell you exactly what you want to hear. Talk to ChatGPT about her behavior from your perspective and it will do the same to her,” the commenter said. “Let her know how biased this is and just a contrived form of self-validation.”
Someone else added, “I noticed… it’s programmed to reinforce your position. It’s machine learning to a ridiculous degree, but it’s still machine learning. It asks people to rate responses. She thinks it’s fair, Because it’s a robot, but it’s a robot programmed to tell people what they want to hear.”
One user even took the man’s situation back to ChatGPT, asking if they were indeed the asshole in the situation, while ChatGPT itself said: “While AI can help with a lot of things, it shouldn’t replace Real, human-to-human communication. “Human conversations are nuanced, emotionally rich, and require empathy… While AI can provide thoughtful input, it is no substitute for emotional intelligence and understanding the complexity of relationships. “
The AI tool also states, “As you mentioned, the way she presents the prompt will affect the advice or feedback she gets. If she interprets the situation primarily in a way that benefits her side, the response will likely reflect that. This makes it a one-sided tool rather than an impartial mediator.”
Others joked that the man should tell his girlfriend that ChatGPT told him he should break up with her.
“Respond with ChatGPT until she gets the point,” someone quipped.
“Tell her you consulted ChatGPT and it told you to break up with her,” said another.
“National Telecommunications Administration. Ask her to type this prompt: “How do I break up with my girlfriend? ” joked one user.
