Couple set up credit card machine at wedding

Love is priceless – but honeymoon is not.

A couple in the UK had a “touch” wedding reception, giving up the gift and instead asked their 140 guests to go directly to the bank.

Chris Martin, 35, and Tasha White, 33, got married in their hometown of Buckinghamshire and then went on a romantic trip to Mexico the next day – requiring quick travel cash. Two years later, the couple (shared a 7-year-old daughter) and 3-year-old son do not need the traditional housewarming gifts that are usually found on the newlyweds registry.

“Tasha and I already own a house and everything we need – no one needs five toasters!” Martin, who works at Mercedes, told the Daily Mail that they decided to install a credit card scanner and display a direct payment QR code at their wedding reception.

“What we really want is to help our dream honeymoon travel to Mexico.”

The sign next to the QR display reads: “Don’t be tight, pay for our flight.”

“Our guests absolutely love it,” Martin claimed.

The idea seems to be gauche, but it is allegedly hit among their apparently utilitarian guests.

“I think the card reader and QR code are a good idea,” an unidentified giver said in the Daily Mail. “Now, no one knows what real approach to a wedding gift is, so it’s usually money. It’s much less than cash or bank transfers.”

The groom also pointed out that people no longer really carry cash with them, so they think it’s a fun thing for the guests while raising money for their honeymoon.

“You can imagine that as the drinks start to flow, people become more generous!” Marin shared.

“I won’t reveal the total number, but they’re very generous. Some of them are even more than once,” he said.

Their founder Richard Carter said in a statement that Lopay is providing payment processing services for weddings with a credit card reader and QR code.

“Having a card reader and QR code makes it easy for the couple to have a gift for the day without any hassle.”

Carter responded to Martin’s observation that some guests “after a few cups of celebrations, even more generous.”

“Who knows? This can really catch up on wedding venues all over the country.”
