Couple discovers wedding dress hidden in attic
For a young couple, there is nothing more exciting than starting a new chapter in life together.
That’s exactly what happened to Illinois resident Caitlin Ostoraza and her fiancé, who excitedly bought a home together last summer.
Busy moving in and settling in, it wasn’t until a few months later that Ostoraza discovered the home had a secret attic, thanks to her father. What she found there, however, was even more shocking.
After finally using a makeshift rope to gain access to the attic, the family found a few random items likely left behind by the previous owner, such as a pool float and a broken tennis racket, as the rope that pulled them down the stairs was missing.
The most shocking discovery? The wedding dress is neatly folded in the designated box.
While the head-scratching discovery was definitely unexpected, Ostoraza sent social media into a frenzy over her decision on how to handle it after she posted about the hidden wedding dress on TikTok.
The Washington Post reached out to Ostoraza for comment.
In one video that has been viewed nearly 3 million times, the overlay text reads: “POV, you and your fiancé bought a house and found a wedding dress in the attic.” An excited bride-to-be is opening a carefully packaged vintage wedding dress.
She then pulled out the long-sleeved lace gown and held it up in front of her, clearly excited to use the dress in some way, as her caption read: “This was not the previous owner’s wedding dress. Hoping to use something left over as something I borrowed for our wedding. I just know whoever wears this dress will look amazing. Train is everything.”
As explained by the Daily Mail, Ostorraza tried to contact the previous owner to find the source of the dress, but was unsuccessful.
“I don’t know what my plans are right now,” she told the outlet. “I really like the idea of repurposing it as a reception dress or gown for your wedding day.”

However, hundreds of commenters on the viral video had the opposite reaction to the spotted dress.
“Did you know that’s how horror movies start?”
“Am I the only one who’s afraid it’s left there because it’s cursed? Don’t put it on!”
“I was the only one who yelled, ‘Oh my God, why did you open it?'” It was saved. “
“You need to find out who it belongs to and who is not using it correctly.”
The soon-to-be bride isn’t the only one looking to turn something old into something new.
A California bride transformed her grandmother’s wedding dress into a two-piece for her rehearsal dinner.
“It’s about 50 years old and there are pieces in it that my grandmother and her mother-in-law sewed beads on,” Dalena told The Washington Post.
“I know she’s going to be completely shocked, and I know no matter what I do to it, she’s going to love it,” she continued.
