Aside from the bunny model, the butterfly model is probably the most recognizable and distinctive vibrator in terms of design. Let’s look at a few examples and tips for buying one so you get the best value for your money.
How are they different?
One version is easily recognizable…it actually looks like a butterfly. Because of the design, they usually come with retractable or adjustable leg/hip straps to hold it in place. These focus primarily on clitoral stimulation.
Another version looks like a dildo with a wide base. These don’t have straps, as the inserted part is there to hold things in place. There’s also a clitoral stimulator, but there’s usually an internal vibrator as well.
pros and cons
- The straps are useful, but ugly and can be uncomfortable
- Inserted catheters do not always stay in place and may slip out
- They can be used as private public place games (if the engines are quiet)
- Prices range from cheap to expensive to suit any budget
- You may have to wear underwear to keep them from sliding down
- Various minor design changes or additions
Which One Should You Choose?
It really comes down to personal preference. If you want something that won’t move around, a strap-on is better, but if you want internal stimulation, you want one with a vaginal shaft. Then there’s the question of control – does it have a remote, an app, or just buttons?
You also need to consider the material. ABS plastic and silicone are the most common and the safest. Stay away from anything jelly-like or similar, as they are porous and full of chemicals that could give you a nasty rash… or worse.
Also, be sure to read the company’s return policy carefully so you know if you will be refunded your purchase price if you don’t like an item.
product comparison
Let’s start with the one I’m not too fond of: the wireless Venus Butterfly.
Well, the straps are stretchy and adjustable, which isn’t a bad thing. But what I didn’t like was the vibrator itself. First, the material is TPR rubber, which means it’s porous and not very body-safe (I’m on the fence about this material in general).
Secondly, this vibrator is one of those small, regular bullet vibrators, and I know they’re not very powerful. So, I wonder how much of the vibration will be lost through the material. The user ratings aren’t great either.
But at £15 it’s not too expensive for what you get. Maybe as a toy or gag gift for a first try?
Next up is the Love and Vibes wearable…
The advantage is that there is no strap, but when I look at dildos (and from personal experience Wearable Vibrator toy), I’m afraid it will slide out easily. The base between the end of the shaft and the start of the “butterfly” could be more tapered. What’s the advantage? It’s made of body-safe materials and comes with a remote control. You have to pay 40 pounds, though.
