Secret with King of Hamburg Japan’s espionage

Burger King Japan launched an ambitious recruitment campaign called Burger King (Infiltration Mission) to find 750 “spy” who will help evaluate its stores nationwide. The event was announced on February 27, aiming to identify rapid expansion of the fast food chain throughout Japan to identify areas of improvement.

According to BK Japan Holdings, Tokyo-based Chiyoda Ward, the company is seeking everyday customers to provide honest feedback on every aspect of its restaurant experience.

“As our rapid store expansion, we may not be able to closely follow every detail of customer service, cleaning, menu products and prices,” the company explained in a press release. “We hope these secret evaluators will penetrate our store and thoroughly investigate any weaknesses.”

Recruitment details and schedule

The application period lasts until March 26, and recruitment is conducted through a special website dedicated to the event. Interested food detectives can apply to evaluate their favorite Burger King location, which is an opportunity for burger fans throughout Japan.

Assessment criteria and responsibilities

The selected participants’ task was to visit their designated Burger King location three times to evaluate aspects of the restaurant experience. In these undercover tasks, the “spy” will evaluate the quality of customer service, the overall cleanliness of the facilities, the diversity of the menu, and the right price.

After each visit, participants will submit detailed reports on their findings directly to Burger King Management. These assessments will help companies identify areas of improvement and maintain quality standards in all locations.

Compensation and benefits

The sweet (or savory) part of this deal? Burger King will pay for all food costs for three reconnaissance missions. Additionally, all applicants will receive discount coupons for the cheese package, whether or not selected for the program. Those who complete the mission will also get a special burger agent shirt so that they can let everyone know they are secret spies (although this may blow your cover).

The background behind the election

Burger King’s rapid expansion in Japan

This unusual hiring driver is underway with Burger King’s active expansion in the Japanese market. The chain’s presence in the country has more than tripled since May 2019, growing from just 77 locations to 266 stores in less than six years.

Future growth plans and quality control challenges

Flame-grilled burger experts won’t slow down any time soon. Burger King announced plans to continue this fast growth trajectory, aiming to reach 600 stores nationwide by the end of 2028. The spy recruitment campaign appears to be part of a strategy to ensure quality is undesirable as the company expands operations across Japan.
