A long time ago, I wrote an article about quirky or (passionate) hotel destinations. While most were in places you’d expect (like Amsterdam), there was one interesting place I finally got to try out for myself. It was a bubble tent camping site in northern Spain. Here are my experiences and thoughts, so you can decide if this is the place you want to go to experience a wonderful new kind of romance and passion.
Note: Special thanks Katy, Silvia, Marco and Octavio Excellent service!
Bubble Dome – AKA Glamping
Yes, this last vacation was spent under the stars. While my solo trips were more about self-care, I was still thinking about that old post. Would this be an erotic adventure for a daring couple? First, I’ll review my own experience. Then, I’ll give my thoughts on any sexy ideas.
Nomadic camp – Andorra
I didn’t want a hotel on my first solo vacation—in fact, it was my first vacation in years. I wanted somewhere more private, secluded, and personal. But campers and cabins were either run-down or hard to find. Luckily, a friend sent me a list of unique vacation ideas.
That’s when I saw that bubble tents were available in Spain. Awesome!
Some details about the nomadic camp (Andorra) also caught my attention:
- it is Pets allowed (additional cleaning fee applies but very reasonable)
- The camping area is large and has plenty of space to walk the dog
- You can order breakfast Picnic basket delivered to your bubble every morning (coffee, hot milk, hot chocolate mix, croissants, toast, deli meat sandwiches on baguette, jam, etc.)
- You can also Ordered the same takeout for dinner. They had soup, salad, carrots, beef or salmon hummus spread, cheesecake dessert and a bottle of wine.
I booked as soon as possible for 8 days (with breakfast included). I also confirmed some details, such as each bubble has its own private bathroom, the tap water is drinkable, and I can choose white instead of black (it is summer after all, and the weather is very hot). The customer service on the other end of the phone responded promptly.
My bubble tent has arrived
My first day consisted of taking the train, going to the grocery store, and then biking to the campsite (a stone’s throw from the Andorran border).
The place has a wonderfully rustic feel, with each private space enclosed with reed-like walls and mesh interiors, thus shutting out any prying eyes from the outside world – yes, nude sunbathing is allowed in your space. At reception the staff were very welcoming. They confirmed all my details and explained the bubble rules to me (e.g. never open two doors at the same time or the bubble will leak). I also booked dinner for two nights to try it out.
I also got the added bonus of being able to book a spa bubble time – this is a separate space that guests can use for a few hours. It has a huge bathtub and other things in it, which I will talk about later.
Ocatavious showed me my space — number 18. The moment I saw it, I was thrilled. The private yard was large enough for my medium-sized dog to roam freely (much better than my tiny downtown apartment). There was a table and chairs outdoors, as well as a few trees to provide much-needed shade during the Spanish summer — though all tents come with a cover that you can pull up to block out unwanted sunlight.
The inside is the same as shown in the pictures.
The room was clean and cleverly appointed with little details like plants that added a touch of colour. The mattress, pillows and sheets were all clean (something I always check when I stay somewhere). There is also ample storage space (Even just stowing my suitcase under the bed.) Another essential addition is a lid you can put on the top of the bubble during the day so the inside doesn’t turn into an oven.
However, you have full control over the air conditioning/heater and I always felt comfortable, no matter the temperature.
The bathtub was amazing – in beautiful shape with plenty of clean hot and cold water for soaking (I brought plenty of bath bombs). I was also able to get as many clean towels as I wanted.
Bubble Tent Service
The location and tents were already amazing. I had the best time eating, napping, and reading (and playing with my dog). I did some journaling as well. But here is just a snippet of some of the great service moments I experienced.
- There was a big hailstorm on the first night. (I think this is the first time this has happened in over 60 years). Many bubbles were badly damaged and people had to go home. My bubble only had a small hole (holiday gods were looking out for me). The handyman was there in less than 30 minutes and fixed it. He told me everything that happened on site during the storm.
- I went to the bar and asked for a wine glass and a glass for my tea (I brought my own because I’m picky). They immediately asked if I needed more towels or cleaning services. I don’t really need it but I appreciate your help.
- The few times I went to the bar to get a drink (which was delicious) they offered it to me either by the bottle or by the glass. I always giggled. I don’t know why. It’s just a good choice. One night I was waiting for my spa bubble to be ready and they kept pouring me wine. The barmaids are drinking ninjas. I enjoyed it. But when the bill came I was told that I didn’t have to pay for the glass of wine.
- When you check out, they ask for a photo of you taken while on vacation there. They will print it out and put it in a beautiful frame as a keepsake.
- Additionally, at checkout, the primary service contact Asked me if I had any suggestions for future customers to have a better bubble experience. Finally, I also learned I was not charged for a drink. I don’t know if it was because I stayed 8 days (most people only say 1-3) but I really liked the gesture.
- When I requested the room to be cleaned they arrived promptly and cleaned it very well.
Bubble Spa Experience
Well, this time I’ve never experienced this before – I also see that it is a very romantic thing for couples to fall in love.
This bubble is just like the others, but this one is only for bathing. The first section (entrance) has a hanger where you can keep your stuff. This area also has the same fenced cover and door lock, so you can have total privacy.
Inside there was a bathtub big enough for 2. Hot water was running but the air conditioning did a good job of counteracting the steam. There were also local oranges dancing in the water (I heard this was similar to a famous spa in Andorra that uses lemons).
Additionally, there is a full mirror, a shelf with plants, an aromatherapy diffuser, baskets of towels, etc. There is also a stool with various essential oils nearby.
But the best surprise? A full bottle of champagne on ice.
And since no one else had booked the room (and it was already evening), I could stay as long as I wanted. So I soaked until I was sore and the champagne made me dizzy. You can bet that after my soak, I took the bucket back to my own bubble. I wasn’t going to waste a good glass of wine!
Would a bubble tent be weird?
Well, what I want to say is illusion if you are willing to. But since this place is not obscene, you You can’t go in and do bad things. – This violates the consent section of the SSC rules which we are supposed to follow.
What I want to say is that this place Perfect for a passionate and romantic vacation – transparent walls bring a touch of funYou can enjoy the beautiful starry sky while hugging your lover. You can enjoy dinner on the lawn while admiring the moon through a telescope (each tent has its own moon).
You can find LiftHere is a list of some quirky hotels.
This place may not have on-demand catering (you have to buy and bring your own lunch), but you can get some delicious meals that you can share. Also, if you’re celebrating an anniversary or birthday, let them know (they’ll have a surprise for you when you arrive).
There are also couples spa services – oil massages, champagne drinks, etc. *wink.
Bubble Tent Conclusion
Some people might find these places a bit pricey. But so is a nice hotel – and most don’t have that much personality, in my opinion. Plus, going camping costs money for equipment, site rental, transportation, food, etc.
I’ve railed against glamping, also known as “glamping,” before. But after experiencing Nomading Camping’s bubble tent, I’ve completely changed my mind. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again (even if I wasn’t with my partner as it was a fantastic week to relax on my own… and drink, hehe). I warmly recommend this place (or one of its sister locations across Spain – or any version of it around the world) to anyone who is looking for a unique holiday experience.
