Blog: My first shaving

Some men in the turnover team shared their first encounter with the razor – many neat wisdom in the future

I’m a little late. Until I was around 19, I didn’t start shaving regularly, even then, only once or twice a week. The first time, I didn’t have a razor because I never needed it. My dad uses a beard trimmer but has a rusty vintage bic in the bathroom cabinet. I grabbed it and when I was showering, there was no mirror or shaving foam or anything. I don’t know which direction I should go, how hard it would be for me to press the same area for the number of times. Nothing to do with, anyway, but I hope it disappears.

I never asked my father for help for a number of reasons. The main thing is that I thought I was old and could do it myself, and I didn’t want to be a child. There isn’t that father and son shaved in the same mirror you see on TV. I wanted to keep my own independence so I could only figure this out myself – admittedly, he could have helped me do the right thing (and saved me a lot of money, it bought the razors on its own because they weren’t very cheap). I wish I knew Nivea’s after shaving balm at 18, because the white liquid felt like an angel touching her chin after shaving, and could really take away the sting on that cheek.

When I first shaved, I totally expected this experience to lead to unintentional cutting of precious veins and old horror movie-style dramas and adding footsteps and crying to the bathroom mirror. Disappointingly (or indeed fortunately), nothing is as dramatic as this. In fact, this is a non-fact that I can hardly recall.

After carefully studying my father’s relaxed technique of rolling the razor to his chin comfortably, I firmly grabbed my razor with a young revolt and opened it. Whispering in my mind with my mother’s wise words “shave with grains” and I gently applied the razor to my face. Therefore, it is actually so mild that there is little identifiable impact. To reassure me, my dad told me, “This will be the new blade”, so I tried again, this time successfully touching on my razor and face. I shaved my face with confidence and slapped Yuze with a “Vodou” in the face to get my eyes into the world of “masculinity”. The work is done.

I never had that furry. Now close to thirty, I still got rid of the shave the night before and still looked clean in the morning. So there was never really that moment when my father took me to the side and said, “Son, we need to make this fluff clear for God’s sake”. Instead, at 16, I decided that I would learn how to do it regardless of whether I needed it or not. I don’t need it. I didn’t need it until I was around 21, but because my job requires me to clean my shave every day, I worked hard to shave the blades on my face for that.

I remember sharing a room with colleagues once, and when I pushed the razor through the face completely dry, their faces were shocked. Soon after, I invested in a full shaving kit, my second shaver (I’m not kidding actually), and it turns out that if you wear a towel and rub the blade down on the thigh between strokes, it will stay sharp indefinitely), it will stay sharp, it will stay sharp, which will keep a piece of soap, a soap, an old-fashioned basger brush and a stand. I didn’t look back.
