Beyond Average: God's Marriage Plan

Some people worry about what average is and whether they measure it.

Here’s the thing: the average person is overweight and there is almost no enough exercise to practice. Ordinary Christians have nothing to do that Jesus told us to do. The average number of lifelong sexual partners in the United States is 10.7. The average couple has deep debts, is too busy and too stressful, and has a 40% chance of ending their divorce.

Most of the average is unhealthy, wrong, and even sinful. If nothing else, the average is the way to set the bars, which is too low.

God calls us in the world, but not in the world. The world believes that equality, acceptance or even goodness is irrelevant. God calls us more. If your marriage is not very good or moving that way, it is not what God wants. I said I would challenge you, not shame. “A good marriage” is not good for God.

If your marriage is not what it should be, then how will you deal with it? Are you willing to work hard to be kinder, more generous, and give more grace? Are you ready to forgive and move on? Are you ready to seek help? We tend to consider getting help when something terrible is something we can do. The reality is that improving is much easier than fixing.

Don’t be average, be special!
