Barriers to Sex: Time, Effort, and Individual Solutions
Podcast: Download
I read a study that sought to find out why some couples have more sex than others. But everything the researchers expected didn’t work! This includes the feelings of being in love and romantic couples. Obviously, things are complicated.
The author’s suggestion is that this is a complex interaction of two people. I agree with that, but I think they’re ignoring the obvious.
Great sex requires connection, time, and energy. And connecting bits also takes time and effort. Neither romance nor lust will lead to sex if you’re both busy or tired.
There is a growing trend of husbands and wives masturbating alone because although they both want to have sex together, they rarely have the time and energy at the same time.
Some of these couples don’t realize that they are both taking a do-it-yourself approach. Others suspect or know but silently agree not to discuss it. Many people started doing this thinking it was a one-season stopgap measure. Others do it on and off for years before it becomes the norm.
If you think there’s a small chance of this happening in your marriage, talk about it. If you ignore it, it will get worse!
