Americans are losing interest in sex, and one surprising age group is leading the “nobody” trend, according to a government study.

Statistics from the latest National Survey of Family Growth show that the rate of asexuality among adults aged 22 to 34 is rising – 10% of young men and 7% of women say they are still virgins.

“All in all, for young adult men, asexuality has roughly doubled across all measures over the past decade or so. For young adult women, it’s increased by about 50 percent, ” The Institute for Family Studies (IFS) published an analysis of the study.

The survey is conducted annually by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Researchers conducted face-to-face interviews with American men and women aged 15 to 49, collecting data on everything from bedroom behavior to reproductive health habits.

As well as the fact that virginity seems to be catching on, data also shows a huge increase in the number of sexually active men and women in the 22-34 age group reporting a severe lack of love.

24% of men aged 22-34 have not had sex in 2022-23, compared with 9% in 2013-15. For women, the share rose from 8% to 13%.

When asked if they had had sex in the past three months, 35% of men said no, up from 20%. Women didn’t fare much better, with 31% agreeing this time, up from 21%.

Across all categories, data shows the number of sexually hungry young men has roughly doubled in the past decade, the IFS said. For women, the figure is 50%.

Experts have focused on when these trends began, saying most of the jumps occurred between 2019 and 2022 — the same time as the pandemic.

However, they also say Covid-era mandates cannot be solely blamed for the downturn in behaviour.

“One of the biggest drivers of the decline in sexual activity is the decline in marriage. Married people are having more sex, while for most young people, marrying later or not at all. As a result, sexual activity is declining ,” they said.

A previously published study by the Pew Research Center showed that 25% of Americans aged 40 and under have never been married, a record high.

Many people in this category report living alone.

Late last year, a surprising survey revealed that married men age more slowly than single men.

But there’s a catch – they have to stay married. Separation, divorce, or the death of a spouse are thought to have negative consequences.

Statistics show that women appear to age at roughly the same rate whether they are in a relationship or not.
